Ahaha. Yes, I was asking for this, wasn’t I. ;)
Jaime, no, he’s not 30. His age is actually very easy to calculate… he was 17 at Robert’s Rebellion, when he gained the title Kingslayer. So, 17 + 15 = 32 years old in AGOT. Add 2 years, and that makes Jaime about 34 during ASOS.
Now, Brienne, that’s more complicated. You have to extrapolate from other people’s ages and this quote: “She had loved [Renly Baratheon] since first he came to Tarth on his leisurely lord’s progress, to mark his coming of age… She had been no older than Sansa, more afraid of sniggers than of swords.” This places Brienne as 13 (or slightly younger) when Renly came of age at 16. Renly is stated to be 21 in ACOK, which means Brienne was only 18 when she won the Tourney at Bitterbridge. (But mind you Loras was also 18.)
So, with ASOS about a year on from ACOK or a little less, that makes Brienne 18-19 while Jaime is 34. A 15/16-year age difference. (Surprise!)
And, well, when you consider the fact that GRRM initially planned a 5-year gap between ASOS and the book that eventually became AFFC/ADWD… that would have left Sansa 18 at the end of it, and… what do you know, there’s another Beauty and the Beast couple with a 16-year age difference that would have become a bit less problematic. Just a tad bit.
(So now you know why Jaime & Brienne’s ages are my favorite — because I’m a very petty person.)
As for the show, if you want to know, that’s pretty confusing. I’m not sure if they’ve said how old Jaime was at the Rebellion, but Cersei was 19 when she married Robert. Let’s say GoT S3 is 19 years after that (to factor in her first pregnancy and Joffrey’s stated age of 17), which would make her and Jaime about 38. (Lena and Nikolaj are 39 and 43, respectively, so that works out fairly well.) Brienne however… well, Gwen is definitely not playing 18, but I don’t know how old the show wants her to be. I’d guess mid-20s, possibly slightly younger, possibly older. But GoT has been very reticent to tell anyone’s ages except for dialogue-relevant ones like Bran and Sansa, so who knows if we’ll ever get confirmation on that.
“Little bird,” he said once more, his voice raw and harsh as steel on stone. Then he rose from the bed. Sansa heard cloth ripping, followed by the softer sound of retreating footsteps.
When she crawled out of bed, long moments later, she was alone. She found his cloak on the floor, twisted up tight, the white wool stained by blood and fire. The sky outside was darker by then, with only a few pale green ghosts dancing against the stars. A chill wind was blowing, banging the shutters. Sansa was cold. She shook out the torn cloak and huddled beneath it on the floor, shivering.
